Crack Propagation
In support of the fracture mechanics data the crack propagation properties of engineering materials are determined using the following techniques;
Crack propagation
Crack Propagation (dA/dN) Testing is
used to determine the rate of crack
growth under the specified
loading condition once a crack
has been initiated in a specimen.
All testing is carried out using PC
controlled equipment, Crack size
is measured as a function of the
elapsed fatigue cycles using direct
current potential drop method.
The data is subjected to numerical
analysis to establish the rate of crack
growth expressed as dA/dN versus ΔK in both graphical and
tabular form.
